AIT Announces International IPR Seminar in Taipei

The American Institute in Taiwan announces that the International Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Seminar will open in Taipei October 30, 2000. The purpose of this seminar is to provide judges, prosecutors, and policy and enforcement officials with IPR responsibilities in Taiwan a better understanding of international IPR obligations and norms, with focus on Taiwan's preparation for WTO entry.

The seminar, to be held in the Judges and Prosecutors Training Institute (JPTI), is co-sponsored by the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Board of Foreign Trade, and the Intellectual Property Office with AIT. Its focus will be on international IPR standards under WTO's TRIPS (Trade Related Intellectual Property System) and the WIPO Copyright Treaty. The seminar will continue on a basis of two-day seminars until November 8, 2000.

Six IPR experts, including representatives from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the U.S. Customs, the U.S. Department of Justice, and a federal judge, are coming from the United States to make presentations and have discussions with their local counterparts.

The Opening Ceremony for the International IPR Seminar will take place on Monday, October 30, 2000 at 9:30 a.m. at the Judges & Prosecutors Training Institute, 81, Shinhai Road, Sec. 3, Taipei.
