James Evan Hall, Chairman of U.S. National Transportation Safety Board, to Visit Taiwan February 18-20, 2000

James Evan Hall, chairman of the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will visit Taiwan between February 18 and 20. This trip is part of Mr. Hall's visit to East Asia. He is also going to visit Singapore, Manila, and Hong Kong to meet with civil aviation authorities and talk about aviation safety issues. Chairman Hall will officially participate in the Singaporean Air Show and in meetings associated with the Asia-Pacific Meeting of Director Generals.
Mr. Hall was appointed as NTSB chairman in June 1994 after he became an NTSB member in October 1993. Chairman Hall has worked tirelessly to improve the safety of all modes of transportation during his tenure. He named 1999 as the "Year of Child Passenger Safety" and has focused attention of the Safety Board, transportation industry, and regulators on improving child safety in all modes.
In September 1996, President Clinton named Chairman Hall to the White House Commission on Aviation Safety and Security. In two reports to the President, the Commission issued 51 recommendations to improve aviation safety and security around the world.
Prior to his appointment to the NTSB, Chairman Hall served as counsel to the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Intergovernmental Relations and on the staff of U.S. Senator Al Gore, Sr. Chairman Hall, a native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, graduated from the University of Tennessee with a law degree.
