United States Congressional Delegation to Visit Tapei

A United States Congressional delegation led by Representative Matt Salmon will visit Taiwan January 15-17, 2000. Rep. Salmon represents Arizona's 1st Congressional District and is a member of the International Relations and Education & Workforce Committees. The delegation will include Rep. Tim Roemer, Rep. John Shadegg, Rep. Bob Etheridge, Rep. Rick Hill, and Rep. Patrick Toomey. The Members of Congress will meet with political and economic leaders in Taiwan. Mr. Salmon and his colleagues are especially interested in trade issues and cross-Strait relations.

The ranking Democratic member of the delegation is Mr. Tim Roemer, who represents Indiana's 3rd Congressional district and who is a leading member of the Education & Workforce, Select Intelligence, and Science Committees.

The Congressional delegation's two-day stay in Taiwan is part of a regional trip that will take them to Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong.

Congressman Salmon and the members of the delegation will hold a press conference at their departure from Taipei on January 17, 2000. It will be held at 11:45 a.m. at the Sung Shan Airport.
