The American Institute in Taiwan is pleased to release the following statement by Deputy U.S. Trade Representative Karan Bhatia's office.

Deputy U.S. Trade Representative Karan Bhatia arrived in Taipei on Wednesday, May 24.  He is in Taipei to conduct two days of talks under the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement.  These talks and his visit serve to demonstrate the strong and robust ties between the United States and Taiwan.  We have developed a very full agenda for these talks covering pharmaceuticals, intellectual property rights, agricultural trade, and other issues.  We also hope to enhance our cooperation to ensure a successful conclusion of the Doha Development Round.  There is much we hope to accomplish, and much work to be done.
