In an award ceremony at Taichung's city hall on September 22, AIT Director William Stanton presented award certificates and AIT commemorative coins to the four students and two coaches who formed the team that won the top international prize in the State Department's "Doors to Diplomacy" website design contest.

Three of the winning students are from Ming Dao High School in Taichung, and one student is from Taipei Municipal Da Zhi High School. Each will receive a U.S. $2,000 scholarship, and each coach will receive U.S. $500. Entitled "The Silent Tsunami - Global Food Crisis," the team's winning website examines the origins and causes of global hunger, and discusses agricultural and other means that can be used to address the problem. "Doors" aims to teach young people the importance of international affairs and civic engagement by encouraging them to design websites on issues of global concern.

This year, 263 student teams from 29 countries took part in the contest.
