In this film you can hear how to correctly brand a cow. Female calves receive two brands: one for the ranch and another that indicates the year. Many of these calves will become brood cows (they will mother calves of their own), and the ranchers need to be able to keep track of their age. Branding is a skill learned over time and a good buckaroo will master the process.
