牛仔烙印牛隻的工作

牛隻烙印包括了wattle (即從牛隻的頸子上剪下一小塊皮膚)、在耳朵上做記號以利將來辨識用，及打預防針以避免染上特定疾病。在96牧場，烙印工作能夠是連續三天，每天烙印約200隻牛的任務；有時候，須將牛隻先行去角，以避免他們身處狹窄空間時不慎戳傷彼此。牧場會保留一些小公牛以作為交配用，而其他的公牛則必須加以閹割，因為閹牛肉的品質好過於未閹割的牛隻；牧場主人也會在烙印時，針對生病的牛隻進行醫藥治療。

Branding calves includes giving them a wattle (cutting a piece of skin around the neck), an earmark for identification purposes, and an injection to help ward off certain diseases. At the 96 Ranch, branding can be a three-day task with about 200 calves branded per day. Sometimes cows are dehorned so that they are less likely to get injured in crowded spaces. Some male calves are kept for breeding purposes (bulls), while others are neutered because steers produce better beef than bulls. Branding also gives ranchers the opportunity to give medical treatment to any cow that needs it.
