部分新英格蘭居民對於認同奴隸制度的密蘇里州加入聯邦政府、相當氣憤,他們對於對於本身堅持自由勞工的理念相當自豪,如同這首詩作的內容所表達的、他們認為南方那些奴隸的主人都是些懶人;最後,密蘇里協定終究規範新成立的九個州不得認同奴隸制度(在全數十四個州中,部分的州是由從路易斯安納購地(Louisiana Purchase)案中取得的土地切割而出)。哪些州的全部或部分土地、是從路易斯安納購地案中取得土地切割出來的呢?

Some New Englanders reacted angrily to the idea of Missouri being added to the Union as a slave state. They were proud of their work ethic as inhabitants of a state based on free labor and, as expressed in the poem shown here, thought of Southern slave owners as lazy. In the end, the Missouri Compromise led to the creation of a total of nine new states that would never allow slavery (out of a total of 14 states, or parts of states, that were carved out of land acquired through the Louisiana Purchase). Which states, or parts of states, were created out of land acquired through the Louisiana Purchase?
