    艾麗斯‧杜爾‧米勒(1874一1942)出生於紐約市，1899年畢業於巴納德學院。她為婦女普選權運動撰寫通俗消遣詩歌，為這被人稱為「毫無幽默」的事業增添生氣。以下一首選自她於1915年出版的詩集《女人是人嗎？普選時代的韻文》。

瓊斯先生1910年把口開：

    「女人，依附男人實應該。」

    1911年有人聽他引用道：

    「女性不投票，男子霸世道。」

    到了1912年，他又認為應如是：

    「當所有女性都需要時。」

    到了1913年，他滿臉愁容但卻宣告：

    普選之日必將來到。

    今年我聽他說的真高傲：

    「女人那邊，理由太少。」

    他一直是婦女參政的擁護者。

    其實更為奇怪的是他自己，

    竟也以為自己說的都是真理。

　

 Said Mr. Jones in 1910:
"Women, subject yourselves to men."
Nineteen-Eleven heard him quote:
"They rule the world without the vote."
By Nineteen-Twelve, he would submit
"When all the women wanted it."
By Nineteen-Thirteen, looking glum,
He said that it was bound to come.
This year I heard him say with pride
"No reasons on the other side!"
By Nineteen-Fifteen, he'll insist
He's always been a suffragist.
And what is really stranger, too,
He'll think that what he says is true.
