隔天一早,蘇沙正躺在床上作著馬戲團的白日夢,他的父親進了他的房間,兩人互道早安,接著父親要他穿上最漂亮的衣服,蘇沙正在懷疑是什麼事、但沒有開口問,靜靜地穿好衣服;在吃完早餐後,父親跟他說:「我們去走走」,接著他們走到海軍兵營中,直接走進指揮官澤林將軍的辦公室。

The next morning, while Sousa lay in bed daydreaming about the circus, his father came into his room. They both said good morning. Then his father asked him to get dressed in his best clothes. Sousa wondered why, but he didn't ask, he just got dressed. After breakfast his father said, "We'll take a walk." And off they went toward the Marine Barracks, which the U.S. Marines' headquarters in Washington, D.C. When they arrived, they went directly to the office of the commandant, General Zeilin.
